Tool: ZV Parent Master ..Constraint Salvation
Check out this maya plugin - ZV Parent Master. It makes constraining a breeze ! I've been using it for a while and its useful especially if you want to detach a constrained object and attach it to something else.

Notes: Squash and Stretch & Anticipation...The Subtle knife
smugbuddha: one of the basics.. animators tend to go crazy with squash and stretch...a lot of the time its that little bit extra that we like to add, to feel like we are doing some thing cartoony.
but used right, subtle, it moves away from being cartoony and adds to acting and emotion.. even on the simple shapes.
Elliot Roberts: " Even if those accents are small, the contrast will make a huge difference in how your scene feels, and will take your animation to a new level of appeal. "
Notes: Why Animate from the root?
Elliot Roberts " The hips, or root of a character can have so much influence over the appealing and believable motions of a character. Like the rubber pencil trick, the hips can influence the rest of the body so much that it can even appear to give flexibility to parts of the body that aren't necessarily animated."

To see the the point of the pic click here its my 11 sec competition stuff that i manged to get done before my Animation Mentor started!! it was an awesome rush to be competing, commenting, voting.. losing hehe.. but so worth it.. i know i did improve and got relatively better... i know i can do more...i will revisit this competition again and again.. to see how much better i have gottenThis post is just to catch up with all the time since the last one!! much time has passes and now i am in the thick on week8 at AM.. and as i go tho AM the stuff that i have to bookmark, keep track off and look at is getting too much!!! AM is a massive site and you can spend days in there forums digging around, meeting people, watching vids, getting nuggets of anim gold... so i have decided that i am gonna be using this blog to keep track of all that stuff... my resources need to go online and be availabe to me and anyone else who comes across this blog!! so keep coming back ... cause there is gonna be lot up soon :)

yeah!!! so my entry came in 94!! am still pretty happy did not expect to win or even finish... but i did kinda finish... i wish i could have done some more polishing on it!! :( but i am still pretty syked... this is the fist finished** thing i have pumped out of maya after a break of over 5 years... there was a hell of a lot of head scratching.. blank staring at monitor.. calling up someone who knows maya!! screaming help!!! i struggled with really simple stuff how.. to put an image behind.. how to change the back ground colour.. blah blah.... so all things considered i am still happy.. i have gotten more used to maya and am starting to feel a bit comfy :)
am also pretty happy i got some decent comments.. thank you all who commented and voted!! ok to more details.. took abt 2 weeks after office hrs, on and off, working on this.. did a bit of re-rigging of moom to get all that had changing stuff to work fine.. and then it was just a blast to go all out and crazy animating mad poses.... fun stuff like explosions..and other insanity... really felt alive while doing that :)

Rig Test from Michael Nair on Vimeo.
so as part of the ramp up to AM, i just gots to get back to getting good at animating and producing good looking stuff in maya. To get started i downloaded a couple of rigs from highend3d.com. modified them, i had to make the meca more anim friendly, so i re-rigged it to move more like a hip joint would, also made the the rig scalable so as to match up with the andy kid rig... slapped some animation on and it looks like a decent start.. have spent the last couple of days trying to get the rendered look... but so far nothing to show.. very very rusty when it comes to lighting and rendering!!
btw... the project is called startup... gonna abt a kid running amok with the meca... hehe good fun..ahead
